Celery- The Natural Alternative to Viagra?

Hi Guys,

I hope you had a wonderful weekend!

It is no secret that one of my favorite foods that I often tout is our humble, common friend: Celery. When people tell me they thought it was “just full of water,” it gives me the perfect lead-in to say, “No, no, no!” Celery is high in potassium, a necessary electrolyte which helps with cellular cleansing and fluid levels, and since it is a natural diuretic, helps keep blood pressure normal. It also has Vitamin C. Ha! But you’ve heard about me talk about all that stuff before! You want to know about the Viagra mention!!

Well in my quest to reduce the alarming amount of medications and drugs that proliferate across the Western world, I thought I would take a little stab at the increasingly popular Viagra. It is still a drug, it still has lots of side affects and dangers (possibly affecting vision, causing heart attacks, etc.) and it still compromises our liver- as all medications do.

According to an exhaustive study of purported aphrodisiac foods, celery is the “sexiest” substance on Earth. It has a combination of Vitamin E, magnesium, niacin, potassium and zinc, which are all required for optimum sex. Celery also contains arginine, which is an amino acid that expands blood vessels the way Viagra is supposed to do. And while we are on this topic, I might point out that arginine also  increases blood flow to the um, female genitalia when ladies consume celery, making the female genitalia more responsive. Viagra ‘aint doing that!!

Lastly, celery has an aroma which contains the two steroids called androsterone and adrostenol. Research has shown that when we ingest celery, the subtle odor of these two natural chemicals travels through our bodies and works to attract the opposite sex. Single? Trying to get a date? You might just want to eat a few celery stalks before you head out on the town. And my friends that have been consuming my celery-containing Glowing Green Smoothie- you might just want to offer some to your spouse, girl/boy friend, and see what that does for them! :)

Of course, celery does relax the muscles that regulate blood pressure, and improves blood flow. This also helps with our beauty needs, like helping to reduce undereye circles which indicate stagnant blood and adrenal exhaustion.

So yes, Viagra is just one more unnecessary drug that we probably can do without in many cases, especially when we have celery!! And when really wanting to impress your relationship partner, check out my truffle recipe, the perfect way to end the night!

Have a great start to your week.
xx Kimberly

Does celery have a lot of sodium? I have to be on an extremely low sodium diet. I have cut out processed food and eat mostly raw, but even natural foods high in sodium cause problems(headache, jaw pain, and generally feeling bad). Thanks, Donna :)

    • http://kimberlysnyder.wordpress.com kimberlysnyder

Yes, celery has organic sodium. It is balanced with the potassium, but if it gives you problems you can avoid it. A good replacement for it in recipes and smoothies is cucumber. :)

Watermelon is also another natural form of Viagra!

the more you post info on smoothies the more excited I get…just place an order the other day for a juice machine and i’m so excited to get it this week!

Hey Kimberly – Rowland turned me on to your blog. Great site and very informative!! I am just curious about your take on juicing. Seems like you do a lot of stuff in a mixer/blender and I was just wondering if you ever use a juicer or what your opinion is on it?? Thanks!

    • http://kimberlysnyder.wordpress.com kimberlysnyder

HI Montana! I’m so happy you found my blog. :) There are people that think blending is better b/c you are keeping the whole vegetable intact, and retain the fiber which helps cleansing. Some think juicing is better b/c since you remove the fiber, as you can ingest more of the enzyme and mineral-rich fluid of the plant. I like and use both. I generally start people with the Green Smoothie. Since most people are used to the stimulation of eating more food in the morning and are pretty acidic when they come into this, it helps to have all the fiber help them feel more full and cleanse in a controlled way. Juice hits your system harder, and if there is any fruit in the juice then that may not be great for people that are acidic, or for many other reasons don’t handle fruit that great. Sometimes, I have clients that gag with the smoothie so we work with Green Juice, and I have clients that love the Green Smoothie so much, and do so well with it as meal replacements that we stick to that.
come visit me again! xx Kimberly

    Hi Kimberly,
I have a skin care question that is unrelated to the topic of this blog post. What do you think about chemical peels? Are they bad for the skin? Does it depend on the strength of the peel and/or the type of chemical used? Since you have so much knowledge about skin care, I thought I would ask you about them. Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my questions.

    Take care.
    Christi

HI Christi! Yes, there are different strengths and different kinds of peels. Usually a dermatologist starts with the lowest level of acid and builds up to the stronger ones, to see if your skin can take it. You must be sure you go to a good derm you trust. They can be helpful in helping acne scars fade away, and may help rejuvenate the collagen.

    Hi Kimberly,
This is a good (and kinda funny!) post. I’m always surprised how many people think celery is a “useless” veggie. They talk about it being a negative calorie food and see it as a diet food. I like to point out all the wonderful benefits of it besides being low in calories!
Thanks for this info—I’m going to pass it on.

    Hi Kimberly,
My partner is 62yrs old, non smoker, moderate alcohol, a little over weight, high blood pressure, reasonably good diet – no junk food, is a builder so reasonably fit for his age…………..
WHY….. does he perspire soooooo much during his sleep ? ? ? ?

I was using celery to detox my body. Celery is an excellent diuretic, it can also be used in case of cystitis. Here, you give us some more reasons to consume celery…

You actually make it appear so easy with your presentation but I to find this matter to be actually one thing which I feel I might never understand. It sort of feels too complicated and very extensive for me. I am looking forward to your next publish, I will try to get the grasp of it!

Things like strawberries, peaches, melons, apples, celery and the like. They have calories, but it’s true that these are burned off and more in digestion?.

    • Kimberly Snyder

Natural foods are digested cleanly, so they don’t leave acidic waste that accumulates over time. xx

I grow celery commercially,it increases semen volumes dramatically,no idea what it does for women.

  • Jimmy

Since there is many women present here I’ll be a gentleman, I’ve never suffered from ED, but I am getting older (40’s) and not the er…rock, I used to be, UNTIL I added celery to my diet on a regular basis. I’m no scientist, but soon after munching on a stalk with some ranch dressing, the effects were dramatic. I can’t recommend it hard, er…high enough.

  • Skeptical Son

I just ate a bunch of celery, now my sexual desires just increased one hundred fold, I googled celery and blood flow to analyze this and found this. Explains everything. I am currently under much physical stress, many would equate to overtraining, so my body is not in a relaxed state too often, so the desire for sex is much lower than it should be, yet after consuming some celery, I instantly desire a woman, as a police officer would crave a donut. I will experiment with this more, perhaps it shall help raise my testosterone.

    Hi Kimberley

I like celery even more now. Should i wait until it is ripe before eating as sometimes it seems to taste better than other times. Could you advise me about when i should eat nuts, seeds, sweet potatoes, I do not seem to be eating enough of them in my diet (started 23rd January 2014) but seem to lack some good foods for my hair health and energy. I am finding it difficult to stop some of my old eating habits especially when i eat out not so easy here in Scotland. I have lost 24lbs, I am now 9st i think that is 126lbs which is more than enough. Hope you can help I am using up precious energy wondering about that. Thank you. Agnes
