It’s that time again…for the comforts of eating a healthy afternoon snack from a bowl! My Orange Cutie Smoothie Bowl Recipe will not only fill your belly with juicy goodness, but will keep your insides hydrated, nourished, and free of toxins.
Let’s see how…
Beauty Fruit: Clementine Oranges
Are you steering clear of fruit because of all the hype about sugar in general? While it does contain some, it is in a complete nutritional package and has SO many countless other nutrients—it would be a shame to miss out on one of the best beauty foods out there!!! While I’m all for cutting out refined sugars and flours, I think fruit is amongst the most natural, amazing food groups out there. (I had to balance for about a year when I had Candida and avoided all sugar, including fruit, and you might have to also…for more info please be sure to check out The Beauty Detox Solution.
With that being said, oranges are one of the juiciest and sweetest fruits out there, and one of the reasons I chose to use it in today’s recipe. Known for their concentration of vitamin C, they make the perfect snack, adding a special tang to smoothies and smoothie bowls.
Fruit has the highest water content of any of the food groups and supplies us with vital amino acids, minerals, vitamins and fatty acids.
What’s great is oranges are generally available throughout the year (depending on the variety), which makes it the perfect ingredient to have handy for those afternoon smoothies.
And guess what?! Citrus fruit is a natural way to rid our bodies of cellulite, due to the boost of vitamin C that rebuilds and repairs skin collagen (which is what prevents cellulite from being visible)!
Remember that while this fruit is truly healthy, it must be eaten once our bodies are cleansed enough and our guts are in balance enough to handle the fruit sugar. Let me say it one more time- you can learn a great deal more detail about this in my The Beauty Detox Solution book!
As I mentioned earlier, of all foods, fruit is the strongest cleanser for our bodies and because it dissolves toxic substances and cleanses our tissues and system, this bright orange fella is a great addition to our beautifying routine. It supplies us with minerals (such as calcium), antioxidants and enzymes.
Other benefits of FRUIT!!
- Fights against a number of unstable molecules in our body (known as free radicals), through its antioxidant properties
- Is a natural blood purifier that helps flush out toxins and unwanted substances from the body
- Protects the skin from harsh UVA rays—helping the skin to resist damage caused by the sun and free radicals—reducing wrinkles, fine lines and blemishes
How To Select & Store Your Clementines
Always look for unblemished fruits that are glossy and heavy- this will ensure you are getting the juiciest of fruits over the less soft ones. Also, stay away from any fruits that are starting to rot and have cuts on them.
If you’re not going to eat oranges right away, they can be refrigerated up to 2 weeks. Be sure not to wash or wet them before storing, since this will encourage fungus growth and spoil the fruit. Otherwise, mandarins can last up to a week when left out on counter.
Something else to consider when deciding which fruits and veggies to purchase organic, is the EWG Shoppers Guide to Pesticides in Produce (oranges are #27 on the full list). Again, “Progress not Perfection” when trying to implement new beauty principles in your daily lives!
